News | ACAP of Louisiana http://acap-la.org Association of Community Action Partnerships of Louisiana Thu, 14 Nov 2024 21:26:47 +0000 en-US hourly 1 NACHC Statement Regarding the 2024 Election http://acap-la.org/nachc-statement-regarding-the-2024-election/ Thu, 14 Nov 2024 21:24:29 +0000 https://acap-la.org/?p=2700

The outcome of the 2024 election will reshape the policy framework in Washington and communities around the country. As a nonpartisan movement for the past 60 years, the Community Health Center mission to advance health for all communities through high quality, affordable primary care remains unchanged. As our nation’s largest primary care network, health centers are the backbone of the health system, providing care to a record-setting 32.5+ million people – one in 10 Americans – while representing just 1 percent of all U.S. healthcare spending. We stand ready to partner with new leaders across the political spectrum to prioritize the health of our patients, who include:

419,000 veterans
9.4 million children
3.8 million seniors
More than 9.9 million rural residents

Health centers have long been recognized for their vital role in improving health outcomes and reducing costs across the health system. We are grateful for the ongoing bipartisan and bicameral support from leaders in Congress who understand the profound impact and cost savings of our work. In addition to delivering comprehensive, integrated primary care with behavioral, oral, pharmacy, specialty, and enabling services, our mission extends “beyond the walls of the exam room” and addresses the social and environmental drivers of health. We not only prevent acute and chronic illness, but also help divert patients from costly hospitalizations and emergency care. This proactive approach is a proven model that has endured through political shifts and continues to demonstrate its value in both saving lives and generating a significant return on investment for communities and the health system.

We look forward to working with the new Administration and leaders in Congress to ensure sustainability for our model of care and to continue to address the public health challenges of our time.

NCCAA to Assist Frontline Workers n Western North Carolina

Please Donate to Help Community Action Staff Affected by Hurricane Helene

The North Carolina Community Action Association (NCCAA) is seeking support for frontline workers experiencing hardships from Hurricane Helene.

“Community Action staff are on the front lines every day, often putting service above self. Today, many of these staff find themselves in a place of crisis as a result of Hurricane Helene and we must work together to ensure those that are helping the community recover, themselves have access to resources to rebuild,” said Denise Harlow, Chief Executive Officer for the National Community Action Partnership, Washington, DC.

A Go Fund Me page has been created to assist frontline workers in western North Carolina displaced by Hurricane Helene.

“We were united during the pandemic, and we are united today, to ensure frontline workers have the resources needed to navigate this nightmare, so they can be better prepared to help families in their local communities through what appears to be a long recovery,” said Sharon C. Goodson, Executive Director for the North Carolina Community Action Association.

2024 ACAP of Louisiana Conference – Lake Charles, Louisiana http://acap-la.org/2024-acap-of-louisiana-conference-lake-charles-louisiana/ Fri, 02 Aug 2024 15:59:01 +0000 https://acap-la.org/?p=2626

2024 ACAP of Louisiana Conference POSTPONED DUE TO INCLIMENT WEATHER

EMERGENCY POSTPONEMENT OF ACAP CONFERENCE!

Please be advised that the ACAP Executive Board met in a special emergency session on Sunday, September 8th, and has taken expedient action to postpone our conference due to the impending threat of a tropical storm expected to make landfall near Calcasieu Parish early this week. Our primary priority is to protect the lives and safety of all participants.

Although we are communicating directly with executive leadership at the conference center regarding our decision, everyone is advised to contact the hotel front desk directly and place individual cancellations for your agency’s room reservations. The number to call is (337) 508-7777. Please note that all conference registrations that have been submitted in advance of today will be maintained for the future date of rescheduling (TBD), so there’s no need for concern about that investment being a loss for any agency or individual.

Additional questions or concerns should be directed to our ACAP Executive Director Ms. Hilda Wiltz at (337) 224-5741 or ACAP President Terek Polite at (337) 842-5399. Thank you for your support and cooperation and please remain safe during this sensitive matter.
